They feel it is essential to “start with the end in mind.” The process of creating diagnostic prototypes in large cases enables both dentist and patient to visualize the end result before beginning the construction of any permanent restorations.
After gathering the patient’s impressions, X-rays, diagnostic photographs and other records, Dr. Singer or Dr. Carpenter creates a wax model of the anticipated restoration(s). The wax-up on models of a patient’s teeth serves as an architectural plan of the proposed work, and can easily be modified as needed. Once the details of the wax-up have been perfected, it serves as a blueprint or template for the permanent restorations.
For patients, these wax-ups can take a lot of the guesswork and uncertainty out of the process and ultimately improve their satisfaction with their restorations.
